Eltz Castle or Burg Eltz as the Germans call it, is a medieval castle from the 12th century. It is nested in a valley above the Mosel River between Koblenz and Trier, Germany. This 850-year-old Eltz Castle sits on a steep rock in one of the tributary rivers of the famous Mosel. It is one of the Germany´s unspoiled or unaltered ancient landscape.  

This castle is nothing more than a treat to your eyesight, the instant you get the first look. Encircled by the river Elz, from where it picks the name—Eltz Castle, is a home to Germany´s most eminent noble families. This castle has been the family home of the Lords and Nobles of Eltz for more than thirty generations. Till date, the castle is owned by a branch of the Eltz family, that lived there in the 12th century which is way back thirty generations ago.

The Eltz castle is very well maintained and preserved. World history is full of seizing, colonising and capturing; but the geography of this castle is the very reason, as to how the castle is still self-standing grazing the sun. The castle represents 500 years of finest European secular architecture, culminating in its present shape in about 1600 A.D. The landscapes and topography are unbeatable. The interiors and the outlook are both topic of admiration. Its eventful history, unique architecture and picturesque, sets Eltz Castle as the epitome of a German medieval stronghold. The Castle is very well preserved and offers a tour in and around the artifacts of the royal family. The inside of the castle, showcases the living, sleeping areas, the armoury, the hunting room and kitchen, and everything is thoroughly preserved and furnished with the original contents. The castle is open for tourists to view the interiors and the treasury with an added cost. Touring the castle is like experiencing a cross-section of 800 years of history, reflected in the architecture and period of interiors of the rooms. Within the treasury, the treasure vault contains one of the Europe´s foremost treasure chamber, with its renowned art collection of medieval goldsmith´s dedicated work and many such precious artifacts.
